The Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten is sited beautifully above the Punakha Valley. Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck took initiatives to build these chorten (stupa). It took nine years to build this chorten as the engineering manuals were ignored and the 4-storey temple was constructed based on Holy Scriptures. The Queen Mother had built the temple dedicated for the wellbeing of country, people and existence of all the living beings.
It is one of the best example of fine Bhutanese architecture and artistic traditions.
The visitors can take approximately an hour of hike to reach these site. While hiking you’ll experience a beautiful view of the Punakha Valley and refreshing nature of flora and fauna. You must make sure that you carry plenty of water and if you want to enjoy a picnic in the temple’s pleasing hilltop garden you may carry your lunch pack too.
